Post-Anime Club: The Legend of the Stardust Brothers & Hausu

Carlo and Jenna are back with their underused segment Post-Anime Club! Instead of trying to tackle an entire oeuvre, this time they focus on two wild and wacky films that have nothing in common except for their supremely cartoonish appearances.

First up is The Legend of the Stardust Brothers (1985), directed by Macoto Tezuka. An under seen gem of a film that takes aim at visual kei bands as much as it indulges in all of its artistic impulses. Recently re-released on blu ray, be the first on your block to recommend this amazing film as Carlo goes in depth about various fun facts about how it got made. Warning: the music is insanely catchy.

Next up is Nobuhiko Ôbayashi's Hausu (1977), a movie that if you have not already seen ten times by all means just do yourself a favor and please buy it and then watch it on a loop for a couple of days. We'll wait. House is a horror film like you've never seen before. What it lacks in a compelling plot or even bare minimum character work, it makes up in some of the most dazzlingly bizarre special effects you've ever seen. A true piece of art without all of the stuffy pretense.
